How to Handle a Loaded Plate

I’ve been moving a mile a minute y’all, and I know I am not the only one. I am confident that many other dream catchers understand thoroughly what I mean, when I say the work pile never lightens and the fire never decreases. Nonetheless, there is a way to handle a life filled with many obligations and responsibilities. I, for one, had to learn to appreciate my plate, learn how to sop up its contents like a homemade biscuit and gravy, and trust the nutrients to help me grow into the woman I was created to be.

hungry adjective|1. feeling or displaying the need for food. 2.having a strong desire or craving

Testimony:

First off, life can get busy af especially when you are building your visions. Often times women wear multiple hats, or are served multiple types of dishes. For example, we have home life to cater to, relationships, family responsibilities, work and extra-curricular. An artists and visionary may have the same load in different forms. For example, we have our day jobs, our artistic passions, our businesses, extra-curricular, relationships. Frankly, the list can go on. This loaded plate is the case for myself. I got off summer break and life hit me like a sack of oranges falling off a mack truck. Well damn. Initially I was intimidated by this plate load. After all, I’m not gonna lie to ya’ll. Sure I got busy, but I definitely piled my own plate at the buffet thinking I can eat it all. In real life my eyes were bigger than my stomach, but, I’m a G, so I had to learn how to eat that shit.

Break it down, B:

First and foremost, I wrote my servings down. I wrote down every single thing I was responsible for in this new season of my life down to the letter. My list looks something like the my children named  Blog, WCOM, Brand building, the poetry club, and Graduate school. My toddlers named Teaching, Artist Bloc live, and my new relationship. I have a whole man now ya’ll, and that came with some new changes, phases, and revelations I was not ready for, but I digress.

After writing down my plate’s contents, I wrote down all of the nutritional benefits that could come with my plate. For example, all this newness would lead to new opportunities. I would gain a new platform to grow. Pieces of my vision would come into manifestation. I have new opportunities to love others. The list actually goes on. Yet, after recognizing all I would gain from my plate, made swallowing much easier.

Lastly, I had to learn how to stay hungry. See the only reason why I’m dealing with any of this good shit is because I want to create a better future for myself. In essense, it’s fertilizer. I want to grow a life of which I am able to wake up every morning and do exactly what I desire to do–such as, write, perform, publish, minister in my own way, and teach in my own unorthodox manner. So, understanding that the food provided on my plate is going to help me grow and build that vision leaves an ever growling hunger that keeps me fueled. I almost forgot to mention the universe and the ancestors placed these tasks in my path for a reason, and they most definitely will not leave me out here looking crazy without the guidance, assistance, and protection needed in order to get shit done. (Philippians 4:13) With that said, we have the forks, spoons, and desire we need to be great.

Questions to write on in reflection:

  1. What is on your plate?
  2. How will the contents help you grow?
  3. How can you priotize so you get it all done?
  4. What do you need to be great?

Facts:

  1. You can do all things you put your mind to.
  2. Spelling is a spell. If you write your vision, you will see it in reality.
  3. There is something to gain from all situations.

Pay Homage:

The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.
